Medical Services

Surgery

Dr. John Higgins has been a well-known and respected practioner surgeon for over 45 years. He previously held the position of assistant head of surgery at The Animal Medical Center, New York City and heads up Yorkville Animal Hospital’s medical and surgical staff.
Surgical procedures include but are not limited to canine and feline Ovariohysterectomies, Neuters, Dental extractions, and multiple soft tissue surgeries such as Tumor removals and wound repairs.
Animals are meticulously monitored with sophisticated OR equipment and experienced surgical staff during the Anesthesic portion of all procedures to help ensure the utmost in safety for each pet, particular care is given to all hospitalised, post operative and mediacal cases.

Dentistry

The Dental portion of our practice is perhaps is one of Yorkville’s most noteable attributes.
Pets are kept on a minimal “Twilight” sedation for routine tartar scaling and polishing. As a result most cats and dogs are awake and ready for discharge within hours of their Dentistry with no post anesthetic sluggishness found with deeper Anesthetic techniques.*

* deeper planes of anesthesia may be required for Dental extractions or other more intricate oral surgery. This will be discussed on an individual as needed basis with the Doctor at the admission exam before initializing any treatment.

Boarding

Yorkville Animal Hospital offers a complete boarding facility. Unlike traditional Boarding Kennel, our boarding pets are monitored by Veterinary technicians who work closely with the Hospital’s Doctors to ensure each animal’s well-being during their stay with us.
Yorkville is sensitive to the needs of medically challenged animals during their time away from home and a familiar environment .
This can be a stressful time for these pets. Therefore, our patients are admitted and monitored by Doctors and technicians throughout their stay.Veterinary technicians administer daily treatments and notify Doctors of any change in Medical Status that may warrant a Veterinarian’s intervention. This is especially important for Diabetics, Renal and Cardiac patients as well as Senior pets.

Ultrasonography

Yorkville Animal Hospital offers Ultrasonography services by a Board Certified Veterinarian. Abdominal ultrasounds compliment Radiographic Services ( X-rays) in further diagnosing more complicated Medical cases, such as Liver, Kidney, and Gastrointestinal anomalies.
Electrocardiograms (ECG) are available for cardiac patients, and act as an adjunct to EKGs in Cardiac cases aiding in a more complete cardiac diagnosis and treatment regimen.
All Ultrasound and Electrocardiograms result in written reports and interpretations provided by the Board Certified Veterinarian performing the service.
